Hi, I'm Chantelle!
My love for photography started when I was very young. My Nan gave me my first camera for Christmas when I was 5. It was this completely goofy brick of a camera with a cartoon cat across the front. It was a long time ago, so it had film. Within about half an hour I had used the film that came with it... and another two rolls. I still have those photos to this day. I will never forget the absolute wonder it brought me to be able to freeze a moment in time.
As I got older I was always the one at a party taking photos. Without meaning to, I became the 'designated Photographer'. While other 15-year-olds were getting part time work to save for a car, the vast majority of my earnings went towards cameras. My parents recognised my passion and would encourage my interest by taking me to fun places just to practice how to take a photo. How to experiment with angles and colours. How people can have unflattering angles and how my position could influence that.
I purchased my first DSLR at 17. It was a second hand cheapie I got off of eBay, but I loved it. I soon discovered that taking a photo was so much more than pointing and shooting. I learned about Exposure and Aperture and all these other fancy names that changed the way my photos looked.
When I was 22 I welcomed my first child, a daughter, into the world. She was too perfect not to photograph. I upgraded to a top of the line DSLR to photograph her and everything that went along with her.
Suddenly there were all these different events that needed to be remembered in the way only a photo can capture. Birthday Parties, Christenings, Milestones, Christmas Parties, Pregnancy announcements- all of them so important.
Once again I was the unofficial designated photographer, until the day someone approached me about doing the photography for their child's upcoming birthday party. I took the job, then another, until rather quickly my schedule was pretty full of photography!
This is how SR Photography Melbourne came to be. SR Photography Melbourne is a Melbourne based business focusing on Events and Family Photography. They say if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life- this is so true for me!
I now have two children- I welcomed my second (and final!) child in October of 2017, a son, Reece. Him and his sister Scarlett make my world light up (or is that the constant flash going off? He he).
